A Caregiver is a person who assists with activities of daily living needs and help ensure well-being for people who may be ill, recovering from a surgery or living with chronic disease. Caregiver tasks are performed as a part of an intra-disciplinary treatment plan developed with a registered professional nurse including bathing, eating, toileting, mobility, and dressing, bedside care, including assigned procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Caregiver work closely with the person and often have the best understanding of the residents’ needs and wishes, developing ongoing relationships as they are closely involved in the persons day to day life and bring that insight to the healthcare team.
During the course of a shift, the Caregiver is required to maintain accurate records of completed tasks and outcomes of care for all assigned patients. This will include vital signs, observations, and changes they observe.
